About
Jennifer Shindman, PsyD
I am a licensed psychologist in both New York and Texas, and I offer telehealth therapy services to clients in forty-one other states. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and completed my undergraduate and graduate studies in NYC. I earned my master’s and doctoral degrees from St. John’s University, and I am also a NYS certified school psychologist.
I have extensive training and experience in evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based approaches, dialectical behavioral skills training (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am an Associate Fellow of the Albert Ellis Institute and specialize in the delivery of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT).
I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in various settings providing individual, group, and family therapy. I have worked in community mental health centers, outpatient hospital settings, schools, and private practices treating clients presenting with a wide range of emotional and behavioral disorders, including anxiety, depression, anger, ADHD, trauma, poor self-worth, perfectionism, and disruptive behavioral disorders.

In addition to being a therapist, I am also passionate about teaching. As an adjunct professor at Queens College, I taught cognitive assessment to students earning their master’s degrees, and at St. John’s, I worked as a clinical supervisor training doctoral students in the delivery of evidence-based-interventions. While working in the schools, I created and presented various trainings and workshops to teachers, administrators, parents, and students.

When pursuing my doctoral degree, I spent time researching the therapeutic role of feedback in psychological and educational assessment. The more an individual understands about themselves, their personality, and their behavior, the better equipped they are to make positive, meaningful changes. For this reason, when appropriate, I incorporate the use of clinical and personality assessments to inform treatment and improve therapy outcomes.

In my sessions, I ensure that my clients feel safe by creating a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment. I use an active, direct, and goal-driven approach to help clients identify why they may be struggling and then empower them to make the necessary changes to better manage stress and live more fulfilling and meaningful lives.
